Pro One Playscapes & A1 Rubber:
Delivering Safe, Durable Play Spaces with Upcycled Rubber
For more than 20 years, Gold Coast playground construction specialists Pro One Playscapes have partnered with A1 Rubber to deliver safe, durable and visually engaging recreational spaces.
By using A1 Rubber’s softfall surfacing systems, including CSBR rubber granules, Opal EPDM granules, and Shockpad safety underlays, Pro One Playscapes creates playground environments that meet strict safety requirements while supporting the use of upcycled tyre rubber materials.

The Challenge
Public playground projects must deliver safe, durable and compliant play surfaces while also meeting the design expectations of councils, schools and communities.
For installers like Pro One Playscapes, achieving this requires surfacing systems that provide:
-
Reliable impact protection for fall-height safety
-
Consistent product performance across large installations
-
Materials that can withstand Australia’s harsh climate conditions
-
Efficient installation processes that reduce compliance risks
Selecting the right materials is critical to ensuring each playground meets Australian Standards while remaining visually appealing and long-lasting.
The Solution: Upcycled Rubber Softfall Systems
To meet these requirements, Pro One Playscapes regularly installs A1 Rubber’s complete softfall surfacing system, incorporating materials manufactured using upcycled Australian tyre rubber.
By transforming end-of-life tyres into high-performance playground surfaces, A1 Rubber gives waste rubber a second life in parks and community spaces while helping support circular economy outcomes.
For Pro One Playscapes, the reliability of the product range is a major advantage.
“We use a lot of A1 Rubber’s CSBR and Opal products,” says Pro One Playscapes Administration Manager Vanessa Vartto. “We also use a lot of their Shockpads. It takes the guesswork out of compliance issues.”
Key Products Used
Shockpad Underlays
A1 Rubber’s Shockpad underlays provide critical impact protection beneath playground surfaces.
Engineered to ensure compliance with Australian Standards for fall-height requirements, Shockpads deliver consistent shock absorption and long-term durability. Manufactured using upcycled tyre rubber, they are commonly installed beneath wetpour rubber or synthetic grass systems.
Key benefits include:
-
Reliable fall-height protection
-
Easy installation
-
Consistent performance across large installations
-
Long-term durability
For Pro One Playscapes, Shockpads simplify the process of achieving safe and compliant playground surfaces.
CSBR Rubber Granules
A1 Rubber’s CSBR coloured rubber granules are widely used in playground surfacing due to their durability and colour stability.
Manufactured from upcycled Australian tyre rubber, CSBR granules are specially designed for Australia’s harsh UV conditions. Their unique colouring process builds up multiple layers of natural earth-oxide colour, allowing the granules to retain their appearance significantly longer than many synthetic alternatives.
With 18 natural, earthy colour options, CSBR allows installers and designers to create engaging playground environments while supporting sustainable material use.
Opal EPDM
For bold and vibrant design elements, Pro One Playscapes also uses Opal EPDM rubber granules.
Made from virgin EPDM rubber, Opal provides bright colour options and strong UV resistance, allowing designers to create visually striking playground surfaces and patterns that retain their colour over time.
A Complete Surfacing System
In many projects, Pro One Playscapes installs A1 Rubber’s full surfacing system, combining CSBR granules, Opal EPDM granules, Shockpads, Procure binder, and mixing equipment.
“We use A1 Rubber’s entire system,” Vanessa explains. “The CSBR, Procure binder and mixers.”
Using a complete system helps simplify installation while ensuring playground surfaces meet safety and performance requirements.
Reliable Supply and Local Support
Beyond product performance, Pro One Playscapes also values the accessibility and support provided by A1 Rubber.
“With A1 Rubber we always find reliability, consistency and a good product range,” Vanessa says. “They’re also a local supplier to us, which makes things convenient. Sometimes we need product at short notice, and they’re usually able to accommodate us.”
With manufacturing and distribution across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, A1 Rubber supports contractors nationwide with reliable supply and responsive service.
Supporting Safe and Sustainable Playgrounds
Through long-term partnerships with installers like Pro One Playscapes, A1 Rubber continues to demonstrate how upcycled tyre rubber materials can deliver safe, durable and visually engaging playground environments.
By combining innovative surfacing products with experienced installation teams, these projects help create playgrounds that benefit communities, children and the environment.
