What is upcycling?
Upcycling goes beyond traditional recycling. While recycling breaks materials down to create something new, upcycling transforms waste into products of higher value, purpose, or quality — giving materials a second life without stripping them back to raw form.
At A1 Rubber, upcycling is at the heart of what we do. We take waste Australian tyre rubber and elevate it into durable, high-performance flooring and surfacing solutions used across the country. By upcycling end-of-life tyres, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and create products that are both sustainable and built to last.

Case studies
Using A1 Rubber’s softfall surfacing systems, including CSBR coloured rubber granules, Opal EPDM granules, Procure binder and Shockpad impact underlays, the Blacktown-based family business has installed durable, compliant playground surfaces in parks, schools and community spaces.
Using A1 Rubber’s AeroRoll sports underlay, the team installed a shock-absorbing layer beneath more than 9,000 m² of synthetic turf, ensuring the field met strict performance requirements while benefiting from materials manufactured using upcycled tyre rubber.
For nearly 20 years, playground design company Urban Play has partnered with A1 Rubber to deliver creative, durable and sustainable playground environments across Australia. By using upcycled tyre rubber surfacing, Urban Play can design vibrant, safe and long-lasting play spaces while supporting the circular economy by giving end-of-life tyres a new purpose.
